Kolkata: Chetla bridge dismantling nearly over

KOLKATA: The KMDA is on the verge of pulling down the damaged Chetla Lock Gate bridge over Tolly’s Nullah which will be reconstructed.

KMDA officials said only a few columns were left. “The entire structure will be demolished within the next few days,” said an official.

Following structural assessment of the bridge in 2019, experts said it was beyond long-term repairs.

“After dismantling the old steel bridge, the new one will be a composite structure, steel with a concrete deck, so that it reduces the chance of corrosion,” said a KMDA official.
