Kolkata: Attack on ex-ward president’s house

KOLKATA: Over 30 men, allegedly owning allegiance to a TMC councillor, attacked the former TMC local ward committee president’s house twice in Kasba on Friday night. The tension continued into the wee hours of Saturday, claimed victim Bapi Dev.

“I had returned home around 9.30pm on Friday. I got to know from workers that five bikers were looking for me. I locked the entrance and switched on the CCTV. Soon, these men came. When they saw the house locked, they left . I informed cops who stayed for some time and left. Around midnight, my supporters told me around 20 bikers had gathered near Bijon Setu and were looking for me. I switched on the CCTV again. They began pelting stones and beer bottles and tried to vandalize my house,” said Dev.

While Dev (50) and his wife Sonali Dey (46) (also a TMC worker) blamed Susanta Ghosh, councillor of Ward 108, and lodged a complaint, Ghosh said he has approached police against attempts to malign him.“False charges have been made against me. Dev had criminal cases against him. The attack can be a fallout of it,” claimed Ghosh.
