KOLKATA: The STF of Kolkata Police nabbed six persons, including a gun runner named Ria (25), who ran an illegal arms factory at Jharkhand’s Dumka and supplied weapons to criminals in Bengal. All the accused are from Bihar’s Munger who had shifted base to stay off the police radar.
About 25 finished and unfinished 7mm improvised pistols and pistol-making equipment were seized. Senior cops in the city force could not recall another raid in a neighbouring state where such a huge haul was seized in recent times.
“In pursuance with the statement given to us by Rajendar Prasad alias Sk Makbul alias Makbul Hussain, who was arrested in an arms case on March 22, we unearthed this gang. This was an active illegal improvised firearms-making unit that specialized in manufacturing 7mm pistols. We caught six workers, including a woman, while they were working inside,” said joint CP (STF) Solomon V Nesakumar.
“The accused, identified as Ria Devi (25), Md Sonu Sahud (31), Bittu Kumar (41), Md Miraj Alam (34), Md Tabrez (30) and Md Mujahideen (23), are being brought to Kolkata and will be produced in court on Monday,” said Nesakumar.
“Women couriers like Ria smuggle weapons on trains passing through Munger to Delhi, Bengal and other places,” said a source.
