KOLKATA: A 48-year-old man was arrested from the Jadavpur police station crossing around 10.30pm on Saturday after he refused to undergo breathalyzer test and later misbehaved with a woman officer at the police station and threatened other cops. A test revealed that he had consumed 300mg of alcohol/100 ml of blood, that’s around 10 times more than the permissible limit of 30mg.
After being detained, along with his woman companion, he was taken to local police station, where he allegedly misbehaved with a woman officer and threatened cops. After this, he was arrested and stricter sections were slapped on him. “The initial trouble began with traffic cops. The duo, however, created a bigger scene at the police station,” said a senior officer at Lalbazar.
According to cops, a biker had complained at the police naka that the driver of a car was driving dangerously and almost forced him in front of a truck on Dhakuria bridge. A combined team from Jadavpur traffic guard and Jadavpur PS flagged down the car and asked its occupants to undergo a breathalyzer test. The couple claimed innocence and stated they were being harassed. On being asked to come out , the woman, who claimed to be a lawyer, started screaming and the man refused to leave the driver’s seat. “Later, the woman tried to drive away by breaking through the naka. However, the police stopped them. At the police station, they misbehaved and threatened cops even after being granted bail for MV Act 185 (drunken driving),” said an officer.
“The traffic police submitted a separate complaint. The woman was released but the man has been kept behind bars and was produced in a court on Sunday,” added an officer. The incident is being studied through CCTV camera footages and those obtained from body cams of cops.
