KOLKATA: The Burtolla police arrested four women from Imam Baux Lane on Tuesday for allegedly holding a businessman from Ahmedabad at knifepoint and robbing him of Rs 80,000.
Cops said the incident happened on Monday and the accused, Juma Das, Shruti Mukherjee, Namita Das and Rakhi Das, worked as sex workers. They forced the victim to transfer Rs 65,000 to them in addition to Rs 15,000, which was snatched from him.
According to the police, the victim alleged that he had lost his way and was moving around in the area when he came in contact with the accused.
“The women asked the victim to follow them. When he hesitated, they allegedly forced him inside a room, locked it and took away Rs 15,000 from him. They began demanding more from him. When he refused, he was held at knife point. His mobile was snatched and he was told to transfer money through phone banking.
When the victim transferred Rs 65,000 from his account, the women pushed him out of their room,” said an officer. “There have been petty cases from this area before. But an incident like this, where the women planned and executed a robbery, took place for the first time. We have taken them in police custody till April 5 and we are ascertaining if others were involved in the incident. We will also ascertain whether they had committed similar crimes in the past,” the officer added.
