Kolhapur: The police in Kolhapur stopped Shiv Sena workers from leading a protest to the residence of Hatkanangle MP Dhairyasheel Mane.
The workers had gathered for the protest rally despite the prohibitory orders issued by the police. Due to previous clashes between the Uddhav Thackeray-supporting Sena workers and Shirol MLA Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar’s supporters, the police had rejected permission for the rally and imposed prohibitory orders.
However, Shiv Sena’s district president Murlidhar Jadhav led the protest. The police stopped the rally around 400 meters from Mane’s residence, which has the police protection since he joined Eknath Shinde camp. The police asked the workers not to proceed, however, some tried and the police had to intervene and detain them.
Before the detention, protestors sat on a dharna. Addressing the dharna, Sena leaders slammed Mane for his act to join Shinde camp.
They claimed that the first-time MP was loved by Uddhav Thackeray and was given free access to Matoshree and Varsha residences.
Jadhav said, “I challenge Mane to resign and contest Lok Sabha election without the Sena banner. You were finished in politics but Uddhav Thackeray made your comeback possible. When his candidature was declared, we never expected a penny or got one from him for campaigning. We carried our own lunch and worked for his victory.”
Mane had asked his supporters not to hit the streets to oppose the protest rally.
