KOLHAPUR: A 58-year-old income-tax official drowned in the Paleshwar waterfall in Shahuwadi tehsil of Kolhapur district on Sunday evening.
The deceased — Prakash Ramchandra Mohite, a native of Karad who had been living in Kolhapur’s Shivaji Park area — was rushed to a rural hospital in Malkapur where he was declared brought dead.
According to police, Mohite had gone to the waterfall with his family. Shahuwadi police inspector Vijay Patil said, “Mohite drowned while swimming in the waterfall of the Paleshwar dam in Thanewadi village. Mohite and his brother-in-law Udayasinh Vasantrao Jadhav, a resident of Mangur from Chikkodi in Karnataka, had came to the falls along with their families for a monsoon trip.”
He added, “Mohite fell unconscious while swimming under falls. His family pulled him out of the water and he was taken to Malkapur rural hospital. There, he was declared brought dead. The body was handed over to the family in the evening after autopsy.”
