Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike said Thursday she had asked the central government to apply emergency-level priority measures to Tokyo, following the resurgence of novel coronavirus infections in the capital.
Koike intends to call for the measures to be implemented through the end of the Golden Week holiday period in late April and early May.
"The areas where the measures will be applied are likely to be limited. We will discuss the matter with the central government," the governor said.
Unlike a state of emergency that covers all of a prefecture, the implementation of priority measures is limited to certain municipalities or areas, such as entertainment districts.
