UDHAGAMANDALAM: K V Sayan, a prime accused as well as a key link in the Kodanad murder and burglary case, has sought police protection, saying he feared for his life. Though the request was submitted to the Nilgiris superintendent of police there has been no response so far, said Sayan’s counsel Senthilkumar.
“After a ‘secret information’ revealed by Sayan to the police, Sayan fears for his life. Hence he gave a representation to the Nilgiris SP a week ago seeking security,” said Senthilkumar, adding: “But no action was taken till date in this connection by police”.
He further said: “We will wait for a day or two for police to take action in connection with the representation. Otherwise, Sayan will be constrained to move the sessions court for police protection.”
However, when contacted, Rawat told TOI, “I don’t want to comment on this and any respect of this case”.
After Sayan petitioned the sessions court on August 13 saying he wanted to furnish some ‘secret information’ to police, he was summoned by the Nilgiris police. Sayan appeared before Ashish Rawat, Nilgiris SP, in Ooty on April 17. He was enquired by Rawat and other police officials for over three hours.
On August 13, the Nilgiris police also filed a petition before the sessions court for further investigation of the Kodanadu murder and burglary case. On April 27, the court permitted re-examination of three defence witnesses, including the forensic expert, assistant engineer of TNEB-Kodanad division and the manager of the Kodanad estate. Further hearing in the case is scheduled on September 2.
