Kodaline surprise for Belfast busker John Garrity

A local singer was left speechless on Wednesday evening when he was joined on stage by the lead singer of his favourite band.

John Garrity, from Co Tyrone was invited to the Nolan Show on Wednesday to perform Kodaline's 'All I Want' after rising to fame through his popular Belfast busking.

And in a shock surprise organised by the BBC team, Kodaline vocalist Stephen Garrigan joined the 28-year-old on stage for a duet.

Speaking after the performance, John told show host Stephen Nolan: "This is unbelievable. These kind of things don't normally happen to people like me. Music has been my life for the past few years and especially to be in Belfast and singing. For this to happen is just mind blowing."

The Kodaline singer told John: "I stumbled across your video online and with a voice like that - keep going with the music and you deserve to be playing here tonight."

The surprise visit on the Nolan Show on Wednesday comes after John was invited to join the band on their next Belfast gig after they spotted his cover of their hit single 'All I Want' on Twitter.

John Garrigan re-tweeted the video saying: "Great version of All I want, can anybody find this guy, would like to ask him to join us on stage at our next Belfast show."

Speaking to Belfast Live in January, John said he would be delighted to take Steve up on the offer.

"I've been supporting them for years, going to their gigs and singing their songs.

"It's always nice to get that wee bit of feedback on Twitter as well and that support. A lot of people from Belfast have been sharing my stuff and now Dublin and even further afield so hopefully it's going to be bigger and better things this year."
