Kochi: SilverLine project also to blame?

KOCHI: Did the controversial SilverLine project, vigorously pushed by CM Pinarayi Vijayan, play a role in the record win for UDF in the byelection? The survey for the project had sparked protests across the state and the LDF campaign of development didn't find many takers.

It’s a verdict against SilverLine’

“The victory in Thrikkakara is a victory against the SilverLine too. It is a victory for the women who were insulted by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan using the police force during the antiSilverLine protests,” said an elated Roseline Philip, who was dragged away by the police from the protest site at Madappally in front of her eight-year-old daughter.

This incident had sparked protests across the state and soon the stir against the SilverLine project gained steam statewide. Roseline, the face of the agitation, was a happy woman distributing sweets and joining the residents in bursting crackers as Uma Thomas cruised to victory. There has been a permanent agitation stage at Madappally ever since the police crackdown and on Friday the protesters who were celebrating the victory of Uma burnt chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in effigy in front of the stage.

Sabu Kuttanchira, president of the district unit of the SilverLine Virudha Janakeeya Samithi, said that their samithi also own the credits of the Thrikkakara win.
