KOCHI: The 41-year-old man, who attempted suicide after allegedly murdering his 36-year-old wife and their two children, continued to remain in hospital in the city. Police said that he was stable, and his arrest would be recorded once he recovers.
“He has sustained deep wounds on his neck and arm. However, his injuries are not critical. He is under surveillance at the hospital. We will record his arrest once his condition improves,” said an officer with Ernakulam Town South police.
Police conducted preliminary evidence collection from the house at KP Vallon Road where the crime happened. During initial questioning, the man admitted to murdering his wife and kids, police said.
The incident happened on Saturday at the rented house where the family resided. The accused, Narayanan (41), a TN native, was found with allegedly self-inflicted wounds and was rushed to hospital. The deceased were identified as Narayanan’s wife Joyamol (33), sons, Lakshmikanth (8) and Ashwanth (4). South Police booked Narayanan under IPC Section 302 for murder.
According to police, the accused gave sleeping pills to his wife and kids. He later strangled them after finding the sleeping pills to be ineffective. He too had taken the pills and tried to strangle himself. He then cut his neck and hands. The man was reportedly going through a financial crisis, and this seems to have led to the gruesome murders and the attempt to kill himself, police said.
