KOCHI: In order to ensure that students have access to better teaching and learning resources, the Centre for the Development of e-Content (CDeC) at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) has developed skill/job-oriented Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Faculty members at CDeC developed nine skill-professional online courses.
MOOCs have now established as a viable approach for delivering education that combines traditional and online learning, as stated in the National Education Policy (NEP).
Cusat has established CDeC for designing and developing MOOCs in accordance with UGC guidelines. Cusat said that the courses have the goal of creating a unique educational opportunity for all sections of society, especially the most backward, to broaden their horizons of knowledge.
“CDeC has created nine MOOCs in various disciplines for online learning of student community. CDeC has put in place all of the necessary infrastructure for the video recording of MOOC classes. The infrastructure facilities include a soundproof recording studio, advanced 4K video recording camera, interactive display units, and high-end workstations for video editing, high-end server and Storage Area Network (SAN) storage for video streaming, and advanced microphones with high audio quality,” said a statement from Cusat.
The courses developed are in the domain of marine science, applied chemistry, management, law, Hindi, safety engineering and environmental science. CDeC intends to complete the recording of courses in other advanced domains within the current academic year.
Cusat vice-chancellor K N Madhusoodanan officially released the activity report of CDeC by handing over a copy to varsity registrar Meera V last week.
