KOCHI: Thrikkakkara municipality, the highest revenue grosser municipality in the state, on Wednesday presented its budget of Rs 144 crore with expenditure of Rs 134 crore for the 2022-23 fiscal.
The budget gives thrust to drinking water projects since the local body faces rising drinking water crisis. Under AMRUT scheme, the municipality allocated Rs 20 crore for setting up one overhead water tank with 20 lakh litre capacity each at Olimughal and Thengodu.
The budget earmarked Rs 25 crore for waste treatment, setting up of a slaughterhouse and purchasing land at Brahmapuram. Sewage and waste treatment plants have been proposed in the land. To encourage treating degradable waste at source itself, Rs 14 lakh has been allocated. For constructing apartment complexes for landless people under Life Mission, fund has been announced.
An amount of Rs 1 crore has been allocated for the construction Thrikkakkara primary health centre. Another Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the construction Kakkanad PHC and urban PHC. The budget also set aside Rs 1 crore for buying equipment for palliative care, to meet establishment expenses, vaccination drive and to start the functioning of dialysis centre.
For various infrastructure works, including setting up feeding rooms, and maintenance works of BMBC roads, Rs 1 crore has been earmarked.
For constructing bus terminal-cum-shopping complex, office building and smart hub, Rs 10 crore has been allocated. Fund has also been announced for education sector. The amount will be used to start training in swimming, karate and chess, and to develop basic amenities in Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Fund has been announced for setting up a civil services academy in the local body limit and constructing footpaths at various places. An amount of Rs 10 lakh has been earmarked for Onam celebrations and another Rs 10 lakh for the renovation of Onam park.
For the renovation of drains, Rs 6.5 crore has been announced. All public ponds will be renovated using Rs 50 lakh, and the waterbodies will later be used for swimming coaching classes. Fund has been allocated for converting anganwadis into smart ones, constructing anganwadi buildings, and renovation of satellite ground at Padamughal, construction of turf.
The local body announced that subsidized grocery kits will be distributed to selected families, who are financially weak, in each ward.
To enhance facilities at public crematoriums and to make cremation free of cost for residents in the municipality, Rs 25 lakh has been earmarked.
Fund has also been set aside for a slew of projects for women to make the local body women-friendly.
