KOCHI: A policeman was stabbed by a man when he was stopped while trying to steal a motorbike at Edappally flyover around 1.30am on Wednesday.
Gireesh Kumar, an assistant sub-inspector with Elamakkara police station, was stabbed by Vishnu Aravind, 33, alias Bichu of HMT Colony, Kalamasserry.
The officer, who suffered the stab injury on his hand, has been admitted to a private hospital and his condition is stable. The accused has been chased and arrested by the police.
Bichu was pushing a premium motorbike along the road when was spotted by the highway patrol unit. When the police questioned him they found him suspicious and alerted Elamakakara police station. Then he tried to escape by stabbing the officer on his hand.
A case has been registered against the accused with charges of attempt to murder also and he was remanded in judicial custody.
