It was a long time coming and after LeBron James finally passed Kobe Bryant to be No. 3 on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list on Saturday night in Kobe’s hometown of Philadelphia, Bryant continued to be as gracious as he was in the lead up to LeBron passing him as James now only has Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ahead of him.
It wasn’t a perfect night for LeBron and the Lakers as they lost to the Sixers on Saturday night, unable to overcome a terrible start. They had a brief comeback attempt that had them alive in the fourth quarter but they eventually lost by 17. Nevertheless, Bryant made sure to honor LeBron passing him multiple times.
One of the greatest what-ifs in the history of the league is what would have it been like had Kobe and LeBron ever played against each other in the Finals. It’s something LeBron still thinks about but with the help of hindsight, it makes it easier for Kobe fans to accept the latest milestone. In theory, at least.
