Kobe Bryant's post-mortem released after helicopter crash

Kobe Bryant died of blunt force trauma, a post-mortem examination has ruled after the basketball star passed away in a helicopter crash earlier this year.

The eight other victims of the crash, including Bryant's daughter Gianna, 13, were also killed by blunt force trauma.

The helicopter in which they were travelling crashed in California on January 26 amid heavy fog.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated but pilot Ara Zobayan, 50, had no drugs or alcohol in his body, a post-mortem also found, and the tragedy has been ruled an accident.

The results of Bryant's autopsy were published on the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's website on Friday.

The 41-year-old was travelling with Brianna, her teammates, some relatives and a coach to a basketball tournament in Thousand Oaks, a north-western suburb of Los Angeles, when the helicopter crashed into a hillside.

A huge international outpouring of grief followed for Mr Bryant and the other victims of the crash.

But Mr Bryant's widow has filed a lawsuit against the helicopter's operating company, alleging that pilot Mr Zobayan did not take weather forecasts into account before the flight.

Mr Bryant, who played for the LA Lakers throughout his career, won the NBA five times and is considered an all-time basketball great. He retired from the game in 2016.
