Officers recovered the offensive weapon before arresting a man.

The Neighbourhood Policing Week scheme is the first of its kind locally and aims to recognise and celebrate the work of neighbourhood policing teams as well as showcase to the public what their local police teams do.

Head of Local Policing, Chief Superintendent Zoe Thornton said: “This is the first time a week of action celebrating Neighbourhood Policing has taken place and we are excited to share with the community exactly what our officers do across Merseyside and how it all pieces together to keep you safe.”

Launching the event, which runs from Monday, January 17 to Sunday, January 23, Chief Superintendent Thornton added: “Our Community, Prevention and Targeted teams have got a lot of activity planned this week that we will aim to share on our social media channels but in case we can’t get to it all, expect to see walk-abouts with our partners, partnership visits to local places of worship, high vis patrols, roadside operations, warrants, open land searches, community engagement opportunities and much more.”

Over the course of the week, Wirral Police have provided daily updates and insights into the events, recoveries and arrests made on social media, including the discovery and arrest of the 'juvenile male' carrying the knuckle duster.

As part of the week's events, there was a heightened police presence in a number of areas across the borough that had been highlighted by members of the public regarding concerns related to ASB, drug dealing and other crime-related concerns .

Areas that saw high-visibility police presence included Birkenhead Park, Birkenhead Town Centre, Moreton, Tranmere, Beechwood, Oxton and Heswall.

Wirral Police have also held a number of pop up burglary reduction events across the borough where they issued crime prevention and burglary prevention equipment to members of the public.

Chief Superintendent Thornton said: “We recognise that working for the police, no matter what your role, can be physically and mentally draining – but it’s also one of the most rewarding jobs anyone can do and therefore celebrating the various teams that make up the Force is just one way of showcasing both internally and externally just how much we appreciate the hard work that is carried out every single day.”

Anyone with information of drugs and dangerous weapons in their community can to speak to local officers or via @MerPolCC on Twitter and ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook.
