Knowsley remains the worst-affected part of the region in terms of positive coronavirus cases this week.
With its rate now at 223 per 100,000, the borough has the fourth highest number of confirmed cases in the country.
In just one week (17 to 23 September) there were 335 positive cases.
Liverpool’s rate is not far behind, at 202, while Wirral ’s infection rate stood at 139.8 per 100,000 for the same period.
Council Leader Graham Morgan has previously said it is “vital” for people to “stop and think about our behaviour.”
Cllr Morgan said: “It’s a really simple message – we all need to do the right thing and follow the new rules. That way we can get through this next phase and stop more people becoming ill and more people tragically dying.”
Almost all of Knowsley’s schools remain open, but the past week has seen a number of schools in the borough send pupils home.

A spokeswoman for Knowsley Counci l said: “We are working hard to support all schools across Knowsley as they deal with potential and confirmed cases of COVID-19.
“Each setting is facing a different and unique challenge, so our approach to each case differs according to the specific circumstances.
“Council officers including Public Health professionals provide advice to our schools, so that they can be confident in making operational decisions. In more serious circumstances, the safest thing to do will be to send groups of pupils or staff home to self-isolate.
“We know that all of our schools want to remain fully open to all pupils but, in view of the recent increases in rates of COVID-19 in the community, we have to recognise that there will be times that this may not be possible.”
