Knowsley elections 2019: Here's what the parties are promising you

With local elections taking place in a few weeks, here’s a look at what some of the parties vying for your vote are promising for Knowsley .

The borough, which has seen its budget decimated by cuts, is controlled by Labour, with only five of the 45 council seats not currently held by the party.

With only 15 seats up for election this year , a change of control isn’t possible in the council - but Labour will still be looking to defend 14 seats, with the Lib Dems defending one.

All the largest parties competing in the borough were asked for their pledges.

Labour have not yet provided theirs.

Here is what the other parties said:

The Conservative Party

On May 2, people in Knowsley and across the country will be going to the polls in the 2019 local elections.

These elections are a chance for resident to decide on who is best placed to run these services and how much council tax you will pay for them in return.

Knowsley Conservatives are fielding candidates in every ward in the upcoming council elections, ensuring that voters have an alternative to Labour and are the only opposition party in Knowsley contesting every ward.

Our priorities are to improve secondary education provision, ensure that the redevelopment of Kirkby town centre is implemented and campaign for the end of car parking charges in Kirkby and Huyton to breathe new life into our high streets.

Up and down the country it is Conservative councillors and Conservative councils who have a proven record of managing your money wisely and providing good local services.

Conservatives set lower council tax than Labour councils – in 2018-19 an average of £118 a year lower for a typical home, meaning you and your neighbours have more money in your pockets at the end of the month.

Labour’s record shows that Labour councillors mean higher council tax and worse local services, you only need to look at the Labour-run Liverpool council, which has asked households to pay an extra £16 on their council tax bills for their Mayor’s salary.

In these elections, the choice is clear, a vote for Conservative councillors who deliver better services for their communities, together with lower taxes or a vote for Labour and higher council tax and worse local services.

The Green Party

The Green Party’s vision and ambitions for Knowsley is simple, we wish to put the community at the heart of everything the council does.

For too long residents have been excluded from the decision making process by people who wish to keep the establishment closed.

Our position is clear, residents should be viewed as assets who can help the council shape and develop our borough into a fantastic place to live.

Green Party Councillors will listen to our residents and be their voice in the council chamber as oppose to the council’s voice in the community.

The Green Party commitments for this election are a brownfield-first policy in approach to developments within the borough.

A recall of the local plan, and to re-commission it with a new directive of listening to what the community wants not the developers.

Residents can be assured that a Green Party Councillor will act in their best interest,

The Green Party don’t whip their councillors how to vote, instead all Green Party councillors are asked to vote with their conscience.

The Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats in Knowsley have been consistent in opposing Labour's greenbelt and parks sell off and as such their main pledge is to work with communities and town councils to protect our green spaces.

An area that we have been trying to expose for some time is the massively high salaries of the chief officers at KMBC, over 14 on £100,000 or more!

We believe that we should cut these salaries down before even considering council tax rises.

A new key pledge from the Lib Dems is the re-introduction of weekly bin collections.

Residents are beginning to question why they pay council tax at all if services are so sparse.

After talking to residents we believe we can challenge the council to re-introduce weekly bin collections as a priority.
