Know everything about Easter 2024: History, significance, rituals and celebrations

The word "Good Friday" has a meaning similar to that of "holy Friday" or "pious Friday." This is the Friday preceding Easter, a Christian holiday commemorating Jesus' resurrection. It is a Christian holiday honoring the murder and crucifixion of Jesus. The date of the celebration is March 29, 2024, this year. It is said that the Romans crucified Jesus on this day. In order to establish a new religion, Pontius Pilate, the Roman ruler of Judaea, ordered Jesus' execution. Christians hold that when Jesus died on this day, he also took away all of humanity's sins from this earth. It honors Jesus Christ's crucifixion and death, which came before Easter Sunday, which marks his resurrection.

The Paschal Triduum, or three days, commemorates the trial, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Good Friday is one of those days. It occurs throughout Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday after Palm Sunday. Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday, marks the beginning of the triduum, which concludes on Easter Sunday. Great Friday, Holi Friday, and Black Friday are some other names for Good Friday. On Good Friday, many Christian groups observe fasts, including Catholic, Orthodox, Methodist, Oriental Orthodox, and others. For Christians everywhere, Good Friday is a day of fasting, repentance, and sadness.

History of Good Friday

On this day in history, Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem by the Romans. Jesus was condemned by Jewish religious authorities and given the death penalty by Roman Governor Pontius Pilate. Observance

Good Friday is remembered with reverence rather than being a holiday. Around the world, churches host special services that feature Bible readings, reflective hymns, and requests for forgiveness. Good Friday is a public holiday in some places, giving people the opportunity to visit churches and consider the meaning of the day.

Traditions and Customs

Reading the Bible, abstaining from meat, fasting, and church attendance are examples of customs. While charity and deeds of compassion are urged to assist those in need, certain localities commemorate the Passion of Christ through processions and reenactments.

Christians place a great deal of religious significance on Good Friday because it serves as a reminder of the suffering of Jesus Christ and the promise of salvation it offers. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the core Christian teachings of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness as Christians observe it with solemnity and contemplation.
