Knockout, Landero ready to rumble in Chon Buri

Knockout CP Freshmart, left, poses with his challenger Toto Landero yesterday. PR

Knockout CP Freshmart and Toto Landero are both feeling confident ahead of their WBA minimumweight title bout in Chon Buri tomorrow.

The Thai champion and his Philippine challenger faced off for the first time yesterday. Knockout is a little shorter but considerably bulkier than his opponent.

The fight, which will take place at a makeshift ring outside Chon Buri's provincial hall, will be shown live on Channel 7 starting at 1.45pm.

Knockout, who holds a record of 16-0-0 with seven KOs, outpointed Rey Loreto, also of the Philippines, in his previous fight in July.

"I don't have any worry regarding this fight," Knockout told the media. "I'm in my best possible shape after having been training for more than four months.

"My preparation has been great. I've been training very hard since my scheduled title defence in China got cancelled. My weight is also fine, just a bit more than one pound over the limit. Everything is under control.

"I hope the fans will come out and support me. And the fans at home will hopefully tune in to watch the fight on televison as well," added Knockout.

"I will do my best to keep the belt in Thailand."

Meanwhile Knockout's promoter Piyarat Wachirarattanawong remained cautious about the fight and warned Knockout not to underestimate Landero.

"This fight is very important and Knockout simply has to win," said Piyarat.

"Knockout's next opponent has already been lined up. The negotiations for the first against Xiong Chaozhong, the former WBC champion, in China is already at an advanced stage."

Meanwhile Landero, who remained calm throughout their face-off yesterday, said he's confident of taking home the title.

"I'm here to win," said Landero. "And I'm confident that I will succeed.

"I don't know if the fight will go the distance or not, it depends on the chances. I will have to wait for my chance in the ring."
