Knockhill thanks NHS workers with free day at the races

BOSSES at Knockhill circuit are showing their appreciation for National Health Service workers by offering them a free day at the races.

The famous Fife motorsport venue will be hosting its first-ever NHS Appreciation Day at the Scottish Motor Racing Club championship race event on Sunday, October 10, to coincide with its Armed Forces Appreciation Day.

Bosses say it is their way of saying “thank you” as they recognise NHS staff have all been under immense pressures during the last 18 months of the pandemic.

To enjoy the free day out, NHS workers and serving members or veterans of the Armed Forces simply need to show their NHS ID card or proof of service in the forces.

Anyone accompanying them can get in for a concessionary rate, with access for under-12s – and parking – free for the event that starts at noon.

Knockhill director of events Stuart Gray said: “The debt of thanks we all owe our NHS staff in the last 18 months is incalculable because of the effects of the pandemic.

“We all know they were stretched prior to March 2020 but their resilience, dedication and constant role in the face of Covid-19 matches the traits of our Armed Forces in time of conflict.

“We owe the NHS and our Armed Forces so much and our Appreciation Day for both sectors is our small way of saying thank you. We hope many people will come along who have not previously been to the circuit.”

Visitors are promised an action-packed event from midday all the way to about 5.30pm, with a series of hotly-fought contests featuring classic sports and saloon cars, Formula Ford, Fiesta STs, MINIs and Citroen C1s.
