Knock Road delays expected as work starts on £288k pedestrian and cycle crossing

Work has commenced on a £288,000 upgrade of a pedestrian and cycle crossing on the Knock Road.

The redevelopment of the crossing at the Glen Road junction of the A55 outer ring road is designed to make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians, particularly the vulnerable people such as children, the elderly and those with a disability.

It will also improve the access for those living on the Braniel Estate to the Connswater Community Greenway.

New traffic signals, tactile paving, drop kerbs and cycling facilities are to be installed as part of the redevelopment.

During the works lane closures will be in place Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30am. They are due to be completed on July 31.

Minister Mallon said that the Department of Infrastructure is committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure that will improve and transform communities.

The department has said that the works have been planned in order to minimise disruption to members of the public. However road users are being told to expect delays and planning additional time for their journeys.

The public will also be kept informed of any changes to the work schedule, which will be carried out following current public health and health and safety advice.
