Knock on wood: UNESCO-listed kasedori festival held in Saga

Two men dressed as kasedori, or bird messengers of god, perform a ritual to ward off misfortune by banging bamboo poles on the floor of someone's house on Saturday night during the Mishima no Kasedori festival, which has been held for about 380 years in Saga's Mishima district. The festival is part of the ritual visits of deities in masks and costumes known as Raiho-shin, which was added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2018.
