'Knock, knock' - Nottingham Forest fans mock Derby County keeper as Scotland lose Euro 2020 opener

Nottingham Forest fans have been poking fun at Scotland and Derby County keeper David Marshall after he was beaten from near the halfway line during his country’s defeat to the Czech Republic.

Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign – their first appearance at a major tournament since 1998 – got off to a disastrous start as they were beaten 2-0 by the Czechs at Hampden Park.

Forest defender Scott McKenna was an unused substitute.

After a bright start from the home side, the Czechs grew into the game and took the lead just before half-time when Patrick Schick headed home following a cross from the right.

Then, early in the second half, after a Scotland attack had broken down, Schick spotted Marshall off his line and found the net with a glorious effort from around 50 yards out.

After the goal, Forest fans couldn’t help but laugh about Marshall and Scotland’s misfortune while Scotland supporters were left questioning the keeper’s positioning.

Here’s a round-up from social media with comments from fans and pundits alike....

Mark Millar: Knock knock. Who's there? Not David Marshall.

JTyler Gaming: David Marshall, Derby & Scotland’s finest.

Dillon: David Marshall you deserve that for that Forest goal.

Mr 55: David Marshall might have been the hero in qualifying but this positioning is absolutely amateurish. What is he doing so far up the park? Just asking for the shot.

FootballJOE: Patrick Schick has just lobbed David Marshall from Wenceslas Square. Wow.

Robert Borthwick: David Marshall trying to play centre midfield didn’t help. But (Jack) Hendry shooting from 40 yards is inexplicable.

Phil McNulty: And while admiring the genuine brilliance of Patrik Schick's vision and finish, why was David Marshall that far off his line in the first place?

Should Scott McKenna be playing for Scotland? Have your say in the comments section below?
