Masked Singer's Knitting has identity made 'public' as fans expose star on Instagram

Knitting hasn't even performed on The Masked Singer this week but fans have 'outed' her identity as Claire Richards, by flooding her Instagram with comments about the show.

As soon as Knitting opened her mouth to sing in the first episode of The Masked Singer's new series, Steps fan watching at home claimed to know straight away that it was Claire hiding inside the pink and purple costume, having recognised her distinctive vocals.

The die hard Steps lovers amongst the millions who tuned in also recognised early clues about 26 being the total of 5+6+7+8, the title of Steps' debut single, while Claire unintentionally put herself firmly in the frame to be Knitting by uploading a photo of her doing dome crafting on her Insta story, after Knitting had confessed in a VT of being a bit 'crafty.'

And it's on Instagram that fans have publicly 'confirmed' that Knitting is indeed Claire. The singer made a return to the social media platform to post a totally innocuous photo of her out walking her dog, which she captioned: "I haven’t posted any real life photos of me for a while mostly because it’s January, it’s freezing and I’m not working (so no make up!) So thought id pop this up in hopes I’ll get my bum into gear and achieve some things"

While Claire's post wasn't anything at all to do with The Masked Singer, that's all a number of her followers wanted to talk about. One replied: "Nice knitted hat did u knit that do u like knitting," with a second commenting: "Well what a lovely knitted woolly hat"

Being even more direct, another of Claire's fans and avid Masked Singer viewer reacted; "Nice to see your face out of the knitting mask"

As well as her voice coming through clearly when Knitting sang No More Tears (Enough is Enough) and Memory on her last show, the clues are mounting up for Claire to be Knitting.

Clues include the mention of the future being in two halves, a nod to Steps releasing two versions of their album What The Future Holds, the appearance of 2002 - the year H & Claire launched as a double act and Knitting asking someone to turn on the light, a not so subtle reference to the band's 2017 single Scared of the Dark.
