Knitted hats wanted for newborn babies at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

An appeal has been put out for knitted hats for newborn babies at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The call has been issued by the Warm Baby Project, which was started by Olivia Cundell of Bury St Edmunds in England in 2018, following the premature birth of her grandson.

And following the success of the campaign, its has been rolled out across the country and is now having a positive impact on young lives in Glasgow.

However the team behind the project say the QEUH is currently running low on stock, with over 500 hats needed in its maternity and neonatal intensive care units each month.

The latest appeal asks: "Glasgow’s University Hospital uses 500-600 baby hats per month on their maternity ward and NICU units. They are currently running low on stock and have said they always have a need for more!

"Sizes from small preemie - newborn (9lb baby) are all needed. All colours are accepted."

Anyone wishing to contribute is advised to post the hats to:

Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
1345 Govan Rd
Glasgow
G51 4TF

Meanwhile, the team add: "Please include a note to say you are knitting on behalf of the warm baby project!

"Also please post photographs of your work before you post them off!

"Happy knitting, let’s keep some more babies warm!"

UPDATE: We're told the hospital wards been inundated and now have more than enough cute baby hats! Thanks to everyone for their generous donations!
