Knightsbridge shut due to 'suspicious item'

A major route through central London was forced to shut due to a suspicious item.

Knightsbridge was closed in both directions from Brompton Road to Trevor Place on Tuesday afternoon.

The road was first shut at around 2.30pm, according to travel data site Inrix, but has since reopened.

Meanwhile, the 9, 52, and 452 bus routes were diverted.

A police spokesperson confirmed: “Police were called at 13:32hrs to a report of a suspicious item in Rutland Gardens, Knightsbridge, SW7. Specialist officers assessed the item and the incident was stood down at 15:19hrs.”
