Knightley and Son by Rohan Gavin – review

Having never heard of Knightley and Sons, I saw it in my local library and decided to read the first few pages to see if I enjoyed the start. It was a spectacular opening and I am sure that you will agree:

In a private room in a quiet garden suburb outside London, Alan Knightley slept a dreamless sleep. This condition was not unusual for a patient who had been asleep for over four years.

This start really caught my attention and I wanted to read on – so I borrowed the book from the library.

This book is about a book called ‘The Code’ which is supposed to be written by an author called Ambrose Chambers. This book was very popular to the wide range of people. Alan Knightley, who was the father of Darkus Knightley, was in intensive care as he was ‘somewhere in between a coma and a trance’ and had been asleep for over four years in Shrebwoods Hospice. However, one day he woke up and escaped from the hospice, when no one was watching.

Although he had been asleep, his memory had not completely abandoned him. Therefore, with the help from his son, who also had a similar detective mind to him, they attempted to trace to trace down a criminal organisation called ‘The Combination’. This organisation was believed to be the reason for the strange happenings to certain readers who read ‘The Code’. With certain surprises and difficult scenarios, they attempt to abolish this book and find out why these happenings are taking place. Can they do it?

I recommend this book to anyone over the age of 10 as it is a very interesting book, which includes some magnificent detective work from the Knightleys and some very unexpected twists and turns. This book also contains some extracts from the book ‘The Code’, which is very different and inspirational.
