This is a sequel to the first book of Knightley and Son, and has definitely lived up to the high expectations set up by the first book, which ends when Darkus, (the main character, 13 years old and a talented detective) is given an old police dog by his dad.
In this book, Darkus finds out that his Uncle Bill, who is a policeman, has been attacked by some sort of monstrous dog while out on his patrol. Also, his father, Alan Knightley, has disappeared, most probably off on another case. After finding a book about werewolves in the bathroom, he begins to get worried. He traces his dad's whereabouts, ending up on Hampstead Heath with his dog.
As he follows the trail, he notices a multitude of missing pet posters, all dogs, and wonders if his dad is really on to something. With his dad, his uncle, his dog, and his step-sister Tilly, he goes on a hair-raising adventure. With the problem of his uncle falling in love with a professional dog trainer, along with many other issues, will they ever find the person, or thing responsible for the doggy disappearances?
You will need to read the first book to understand this sequel, as there are many characters and intricate plots to get your head around. As there is a third book coming, I would highly recommend the trilogy to anyone who loves to get stuck into a great mystery or an action-packed thriller.
