Knifeman tries to grab shopkeeper before running off with cash in terrifying robbery

A knife-wielding man stormed a newsagent and threatened a member of staff before running off with cash.

Officers were called to reports of a robbery at a business on Bowness Road in Middleton on Thursday (13 May) afternoon.

A man, who was armed with a knife, attempted to grab a worker before making off with money, police said.

Nobody was injured during the robbery, but the staff member was left shaken.

A number of police vehicles could be seen outside the shop on Thursday afternoon, as officers carried out their investigations.

No arrests have been made and police are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 12.10pm on Thursday 13 May 2021, police were called to reports of a robbery at a business premises on Bowness Road in Middleton.

"Initial enquires have established that a man - who was wielding a knife - attempted to grab a staff member before making off with a quantity of money.

"No one was injured; however the staff member was left understandably shaken.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
