Knifeman slashes woman's face after knocking at her front door

A stranger slashed a woman across the face with a knife after she answered a knock at the front door.

The victim is recovering in hospital after suffering a “serious facial injury” in the shocking attack, which happened on Downside in Widnes at around 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Cheshire police said the 37-year-old woman was at home when she heard a knock on the door and opened it.

An unknown man threatened her, slashed her across the face with a knife, then fled on foot.

The attacker was described as young, white and around 6ft tall.

He had an athletic build, was clean shaven and had fair hair and blue eyes, and was wearing a long-sleeved top and navy blue trainers.

A Cheshire police spokesman said the victim suffered a serious facial injury that required surgery.

She remains recovering in hospital.
