Knifeman arrested after police chopper circles Salford Quays

A man has been arrested after police descended on Salford Quays to reports of someone wandering the streets with a knife.

Officers flocked to Trafford Road in Salford earlier this afternoon, July 15, after passers-by allegedly spotted a man armed with a knife.

The police helicopter was spotted circling above the Salford Quays and Ordsall area, whilst witnesses spotted up to six police cars rushing to the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a man has been arrested, and was taken to custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were called shortly before 3pm on Thursday 15 July to a report of a man with a knife on Trafford Road, Salford.

"The man was later arrested by specialist officers to be taken to custody to be questioned.

"No injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing."

Witnesses in the area reported seeing construction workers in the roadworks area by Ordsall Road speaking to police about a knife, with patrols heading up towards Salford.

Another eyewitness reported seeing armed police and sniffer dogs in the area, with office workers told to stay inside as police worked.
