Dublin shooting: Knifeman shot by Gardai in Clonee after threatening officers with weapon

A man wielding a large knife in a local shop was shot by Gardai this morning after threatening officers with the weapon.

The incident happened in Clonee on the Dublin/Meath border with Gardai still at the scene of the incident.

It is understood that the Armed Support Unit of the Gardai were called to the scene in an incident that lasted for several hours. 

The man was rushed to hospital from the scene where he is said to be seriously injured.

A Garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are currently at scene of an incident that occurred this afternoon Wednesday, 30th December at approximately 1pm in the Manorfield area, Clonee.

"A Garda firearm was discharged during the course of the incident."

She continued: "A man, details currently unknown, is currently being treated by paramedics.

"No further information is available at this time. Updates to follow."
