Knife-wielding man shot by gardai as major investigation launched

A man armed with a knife was shot by gardai this morning.

The incident happened in Clonee on the Dublin and Meath border after the suspect threatened officers at the scene.

It is understood that the Armed Support Unit was called to the scene that lasted for several hours.

A major investigation is now underway.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are currently at scene of an incident that occurred this afternoon Wednesday, 30th December 2020 at approximately 1pm in the Manorfield area, Clonee.

"A Garda firearm was discharged during the course of the incident.

"A man, details currently unknown, is currently being treated at the scene by paramedics.

"No further information is available at this time. Updates to follow."
