Knife-wielding man arrested after incident in WA shopping centre

A shopping centre in Busselton was evacuated as police negotiated with a knife-wielding man.

WA Police have taken a man into custody after he allegedly evaded police in Busselton, in Western Australia's South West, before entering a pharmacy armed with a knife.

Officers located a White Toyota Prado about 10:20am in Busselton which they say had earlier evaded police.

It is alleged officers tried to stop the vehicle but the driver again failed to stop, when more police were deployed to the area.

The driver of the Toyota was monitored through Busselton until he stopped at a shopping precinct near the corner of Bussell Highway and Holgate Road.

Police allege he entered a pharmacy business armed with a knife.

Staff and customers inside the shopping centre were evacuated while police negotiated with the armed man, and officers sent out an urgent message to the public to keep away from the area as the situation unfolded.

Police say the man voluntarily surrendered himself to police about 12:15pm and was taken into custody without incident.

Busselton Detectives are now investigating the series of incidents.
