Knife thug on license cut Auchinleck pal's hand to bone

A knife thug out on license left his pal with exposed bone on his hand after slashing him over a money dispute.

Charles Anderson, 33, was only out of jail for just five weeks when he carried out the attack on Colin Drummond at Heathfield Road, Auchinleck.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard Mr Drummond was within his home on June 23 having phoned the doctor after feeling ill.

A female witness said she saw Anderson enter the garden with a four-inch blade in his hand.

She tried to stop him from entering but he told her to “f*** off” and walked into the house brandishing the knife.

Anderson walked straight up to Mr Drummond and pinned him to the couch who held his hands up to protect himself.

Anderson then slashed his pal across the back of hands before warning him: “You better sleep with your eyes open.”

Mr Drummond was taken to Ayr A&E and needed five stitches for a 2cm slash across the back of his hand which exposed bone.

He also needed three stitches to his pinky finger and there was damage to muscle which controls his little finger.

The court heard no motive was disclosed to the police, but solicitor John Gallagher said Mr Drummond owed Anderson money.

Mr Gallagher said: “Given his financial difficulties at the time, he had contacted Mr Drummond several times with an agreement to being reimbursed for the money.

“At which point, Mr Drummond indicated that he was not in a position to give the sum that was due to Mr Anderson.

“Certain threats were made at the time.

“He was released on a methadone programme but there was a curb on the dosage; as a consequence of that he led himself on a downward spiral and was using valium.

“He attended at the locus and behaved in the matter liable.

“There’s very little else I can say in relation to the circumstances.”

Mr Gallagher added that Mr Drummond was no stranger to the courts and he himself has a record comparable to Anderson.

Anderson admitted the assault to Mr Drummond’s severe injury, by repeatedly striking him on the hands with a knife.

Sentencing the blade thug, Sheriff Desmond Leslie told Anderson: “You know this behaviour is not acceptable.

“What makes it worse was the fact you were on license.”

Anderson, who has been in custody since July 1, was sentenced to 24 months in jail- which was not backdated.
