Knife thug holds up Viewpark shop demanding cigarettes and alcohol

Detectives are hunting for a man who held up a shop in Viewpoint at knifepoint.

The incident happened around 7.30pm on Sunday (March 1) at the M&E Skelton newsagent on Old Edinburgh Road.

The thug threatened the female member of staff with a blade and demanded items from the shop.

Detectives say he then made off with cigarettes, alcohol and a quantity of cash, leaving the staff member 'uninjured but badly shaken'.

The suspect tried to conceal his identity by covering his face with a black balaclava, but Police Scotland  describe him as around 6ft in height and of slim build. He was carrying a bright coloured carrier bag.

Detective Constable David Duers at Wishaw Police Office is appealing for information.

He said: “This is a busy area and I am urging anyone who was in Old Edinburgh Road in Viewpark on Sunday evening, who witnessed anything suspicious to contact Wishaw Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 3466 of 1st March.

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
