Knife thug holds up Uddingston shop demanding cigarettes and alcohol

Detectives are on the hunt for a man who held up a shop in Uddingston at knifepoint.

The incident - being treated as assault with intent to rob - happened at the Nisa store in Main Street on Monday (March 25) around 6.20pm.

The attempted thief threatened a male member of staff with a knife and demanded cigarettes and alcohol. Staff raised the alarm and he made off empty handed, leaving those in the shop uninjured but badly shaken.

The suspect tried to conceal his identity by covering his face, but Police Scotland  describe him as white, around 6ft tall and stocky, with a Glaswegian accent. He was wearing a blue or black top, dark jogging bottoms, black trainers and a light coloured rucksack.

He left the scene on a bike and cycled along Caley Brae towards Old Mill Road.

Detective Sergeant Rob Andrews said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in Main Street around the time of the incident.

“The suspect was on a bike and you may have seen him cycling in the area prior to the incident taking place. If anyone has any information, in particular, any dash cam footage which could prove relevant to our investigation, I would ask them to pass it on to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cambuslang CID on 101 using incident number 3315 of Monday 25 March 2019. Info can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
