Knife thug held blade at shop worker in botched Paisley robbery

Police are hunting an armed thug who threatened a member of staff with a knife inside a shop in Paisley.

Officers descended on the Gallowhill Off-Licence on Gallowhill Road at around 6.15pm on Wednesday night.

The robber threatened a 38-year-old behind the counter of the shop with a knife while making demands for money.

He then fled the shop empty handed towards nearby Marjory Drive.

Cops have launched a probe into the incident which is said to have left the member of the staff ‘frightened’.

The suspect has been described as white, Scottish, slim, 5ft 10ins in height, wearing dark clothing, a dark coloured scarf covering his face and black gloves.

Detective Constable Dougie MacFarlane, Paisley CID, said: “Thankfully the man in the shop was not seriously hurt and didn't need any medical attention, however, it was very frightening for him to experience.

"Officers have spoken to the customers who were in the store at the time and have been checking CCTV, but are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area, or maybe driving by and who may have dash-cam footage.

"It's also possible the man may be local and had been hanging about the store prior to the incident, so if you saw him or have any information that will assist officers with their enquiries, then please call Paisley CID via 101 quoting reference number 2843 of February 19. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
