Knife-crazed Clontarf hooligans steal teen's bike and throw broken bottle at him in 'worst experience' of his life

A Dublin teenager was left horror-stricken after being mugged at knifepoint by a gang of youths in north Dublin.

Thomas was threatened with a knife and had a broken bottle thrown at him in what he described as "the worst experience" of his life.

The horrifying incident took place on Monday night near the Casino at Marino, Clontarf.

The 18-year-old told Dublin Live: "It was Monday night, I was cycling on my own down in Clontarf. I wasn’t with anyone, I was just doing my own little thing.

"And these three youngsters just came out of nowhere and asked me, 'who has weed?' I said, 'I don’t know, I’m not from here you see'."

He added: "There was this one mouthy one that kept saying, 'Give me the knife, give me the knife.'

"Then when [his friend] gave him the knife, I had to let go of the bike."

Thomas said one of the lads then smashed a bottle and threw it at him.

He said: "And I don’t know what happened from there. It was a blur after that.

A devastated Thomas said: "I’m after working hard to pay for it. I paid €500 for the bike."

The type of bike stolen is a 'Giant Escape 1 Skinny Wheel' with an orange lock on the frame.

"It wouldn’t be that hard to notice and there aren’t many bikes like that."

Thomas said that the incident has left him terrified and he's "never going to cycle out that way again".
