Knife and drugs seized by police after stolen car on false plates chased around streets of Bolton

A knife and drugs were seized by police after a stolen car on false plates was chased around the streets of Bolton by.

Officers followerd the Volkswagen Golf after it failed to stop on Hulton Lane, Greater Manchester Police's traffic unit said on Tuesday.

A force chopper was as the driver led officers on a chase.

The car was dumped on Lister Street and the occupants made off into fields, escaping police.

After a chase on foot, police recovered a blade and drugs that had been discarded - which have been sent for forensic testing.

The driver of the vehicle was detained by police.

The car was found to be operating on stolen plates.

A 19-year-old man has been released under investigation pending the results of the forensic tests.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: "The VW Golf failed to stop for #XT11 on Hulton Lane Bolton.

"It was pursued and abandoned on Lister st where the occupants made off into fields.

"With assistance from @NPASbarton Driver detained by #XT11. Knife recovered that was discarded too. Car = stolen on false plates #teamwork "
