A man who allegedly threatened a service station employee at Rutherford with a knife before making off with cash has been arrested and charged.
Emergency services were called to the service station on the New England Highway about 5.30am on Wednesday after reports of an armed robbery.
At the scene, police were told that a man had allegedly threatened a staff member with a knife before stealing cash.
Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers launched an investigation into the incident.
About 11.40am on Wednesday, 23-year-old Blake Liam Swan was arrested at a Garwood Street home at Rutherford.
When officers searched the home, they allegedly found and seized cash and a knife.
Swan was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
Swan was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Thursday, bail was formally refused.
He will face Newcastle Local Court in July.
