Knicks, Pelicans Combine for Bizarre Piece of NBA History

The Knicks earned a win over the Pacers on Wednesday, spearheaded by a historic performance from the trio of Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, and Obi Toppin.

The young Knickerbockers became the first trio of players to each score 30-plus points with at least five three-pointers each. It didn’t take long for someone else to match that impressive feat, however.

Hours later, during the Pelicans’ overtime win over the GrizzliesCJ McCollum, Herbert Jones, and Trey Murphy III joined the Knicks’ players in league lore.

Quickley scored 39 for the Knicks with seven threes, while Grimes added 36 points and five makes from three-point range. Toppin had 32 points on the evening with five threes, too.

Over in New Orleans, Jones led the Pelicans with 36 points, including five treys. McCollum dropped 31 with six conversions from downtown, and Murphy scored 30 points while connecting on seven of 13 attempts from beyond the arc.

Quickley, Grimes, and Toppin combined for 107 of the Knicks’ 138 points during the win over Indiana with Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, and R.J. Barrett unavailable. The victory saw the playoff-bound squad improve to 47–33 on the season and locked them into the No. 5 seed in the East for the playoffs, where they’ll likely be matched up with the Cavaliers in the first round.

The Pelicans also scored 138 points in their victory, of which 96 were accounted for by the trio of McCollum, Murphy, and Jones. New Orleans’s win over Memphis keeps them in the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference.

Interestingly enough, the Knicks and Pelicans will face off in New Orleans on Friday after slicing out a unique piece of NBA history together.
