Knicks Criticize Embiid's Flagrant Foul On Robinson In Game 3

Embiid's flagrant foul on Robinson labeled 'dirty' by Knicks players.

In Game 3 between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers, a controversial flagrant foul by Joel Embiid on Knicks center Mitchell Robinson sparked debate and concern. The Knicks players expressed their displeasure, labeling the foul as 'dirty' and emphasizing Robinson's fortune in avoiding a serious injury.

The incident occurred in the first quarter when Embiid, attempting to draw an offensive foul, fell to the ground and grabbed at Robinson's leg, causing him to fall. Robinson, who was already dealing with a left ankle injury, saw his movement deteriorate throughout the game and was eventually ruled out with a left ankle sprain at halftime.

The play was reviewed to determine the severity of the foul, with the officials ultimately deeming it a Flagrant 1. Crew chief Zach Zarba explained that while the contact was unnecessary, it did not warrant a Flagrant 2 ejection.

Embiid defended his actions, citing a need to protect himself due to past injury experiences. He acknowledged the physical nature of the game and emphasized his commitment to maintaining aggression and competitiveness.

Another contentious play involving Embiid occurred earlier in the quarter when he collided with Isaiah Hartenstein, resulting in an offensive foul. Hartenstein attributed the incident to a sharp object on Embiid's knee brace, downplaying the severity of the contact.

Robinson's absence due to injury raises concerns for the Knicks, particularly in containing Embiid, who delivered a standout performance with 50 points in the game. His teammate Hartenstein acknowledged the challenge of facing Embiid without Robinson and highlighted the need for increased physicality and teamwork.

The Knicks now face uncertainty regarding Robinson's availability for the remainder of the series, underscoring the impact of injuries on their defensive strategy against the dominant play of Embiid.
