The Knicks have agreed to terms with free agent guard Austin Rivers; like many of the other signings the team has made this week, Rivers is a CAA client. His deal is for three years, $10 million according to ESPN, with only the first year guaranteed.
There had been speculation that Rivers would join his father Doc in Philadelphia, but he opted for the friendly arms of Leon Rose instead. Rivers, 28, has averaged nine points per game in a journeyman NBA career, most recently spending a season and a half with the Rockets.
Seven players the Knicks have added this offseason are either CAA clients (Rivers, Theo Pinson, Elfrid Payton, Obi Toppin, Myles Powell) or former Kentucky Wildcats (Nerlens Noel, Immanuel Quickley). Noel and Quickley join Kevin Knox and Julius Randle as former Kentucky players on the roster.
New president Leon Rose and right-hand man William "World Wide Wes" Wesley were previously an agent and consultant at CAA, respectively, with close ties to John Calipari's Kentucky program. Rose hired CAA client Tom Thibodeau as head coach and longtime Kentucky assistant Kenny Payne to join Thibodeau's staff.
The team made two other moves on Sunday: They traded Ed Davis to Minnesota for center Omari Spellman and guard Jacob Evans, plus a second-round pick, and added Theo Pinson on a two-way deal after waiving him earlier in the week.
