Knee issue slowing down Seahawks DT Nazair Jones

Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Nazair Jones is dealing with a knee injury, which could keep him out of Saturday’s preseason contest and may even jeopardize his spot on the active roster when the season begins.

“He’s having problems with his knee,” coach Pete Carroll commented on Wednesday. “We are addressing that this week. He was not here today. He’s been working hard to try to quiet it down, it just hasn’t gone the way we want it to. He’s got a tendinitis type of thing that’s bothering him. That’s not an official evaluation. So we’ll know the next couple days as we will, we are looking at him carefully.”

Jones did not play in Seattle’s preseason opener against the Broncos, but he saw action on 15 defensive snaps against the Vikings last week, which could be when he suffered the injury.

Jones was a third round pick by the Seahawks in 2017. He had a successful rookie campaign but was up-and-down in his second year, seeming to fall out of favor with the coaching staff near the end of the season.

Carroll stated after the season that Jones would transition over to five-tech, but so far he hasn’t received much playing time on the outside or on the inside.

Jones needs to prove himself before the end of the preseason if he wants to make Seattle’s 53-man roster, and a knee injury certainly won’t help his case.
