Knee injury forces Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller to miss practices, exhibition game vs. Patriots

Kyle Fuller already was in a fight to keep his starting job. Now the Chicago Bears' cornerback will miss the team's trip to New England this week because of an ailing knee.

Fuller did not practice Sunday morning, and the team's left him behind for further evaluation when it flew to Providence, R.I., Sunday afternoon.

"It's something he kind of was fighting through during the offseason, has fought through so far in camp," coach John Fox said. "I've always been a fan of not (being in crisis mode), so we're going to look at it a little bit more in depth and see how that materializes."

Fuller, the Bears' first-round pick in 2014, is being pushed by several inexperienced cornerbacks Fox's staff likes, including fourth-round rookie Deiondre' Hall, DeVante Bausby and Jacoby Glenn.

Hall broke up multiple passes in the end zone against the Broncos' reserves in the first exhibition game.

"In his first test he earned more time," Fox said, "and we'll see where that takes us."

Glenn, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015, played in one game last season on special teams. He spent the whole season either on the practice squad or active roster.

Second-year slot cornerback Bryce Callahan, an undrafted rookie last year, also has played some on the outside this summer. His breakdown in man coverage resulted in a 32-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the Bears' 22-0 loss to the Denver Broncos in the exhibition opener Thursday. But on the next drive, Callahan tipped a pass that resulted in an interception.

Callahan was limited in practice Sunday with what Fox said was "a little soreness." He is expected to play Thursday against the Patriots, Fox said.
