Klutch Sports: San Antonio signs Dejounte Murray to 4-year, $64 million extension

With the deadline to sign rookie extensions just around the corner, the folks at Klutch Sports couldn’t be left behind when securing future money ahead of a potential restricted free agency.

Klutch Sports announced on Monday that San Antonio guard Dejounte Murray had agreed to a 4-year, $64 million extension to stay with the Spurs, via The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Coming off a torn ACL, Murray was able to secure long-term money while the Spurs were able to secure Murray at a value that is much lower than his rookie extension counter-parts. Shams Charania is represented by United Talent Agency’s sports division, who bought a big stake of Klutch Sports earlier this summer in order to open up said sports division.

Just comparing it to Jamal Murray’s $170 million contract, it’s an outright steal for San Antonio if Dejounte returns to the level he showed two seasons ago. Dejounte Murray also gets to stay in a system that has committed to developing him, even after suffering a devastating ACL injury last year.
